How it works commercially

The two arrangements

You buy seats

Course licences

You buy a block of seats at a rate below the public price and assign them to named people as you need to. You choose which courses are opened, you see what has been completed, and you hold the record.

  • Seats bought in a block, priced against volume
  • Only the courses you select are opened
  • Twelve months from the day a seat is assigned
  • A dated certificate for every completion
  • An exportable record of who completed what

Suits organisations that employ, engage or teach the practitioner: public health services, private providers and dental groups, universities, aged care and disability providers, and recruitment agencies.

Your members buy

Member discount scheme

You take no seats and pay nothing. Your organisation is given its own code, and your members use it to buy courses for themselves at a reduced rate. There is no seat administration and no record for you to hold.

  • No purchase and no cost to your organisation
  • A code that belongs to you, with its own rate
  • Members buy what they need, when they need it
  • Nothing to administer and no seats to allocate
  • Each member’s work stays between them and us

Suits organisations that represent or advise the practitioner: medical indemnity insurers, professional associations, and health practitioner regulatory law firms.

Seat rates and member rates are quoted against the number of people involved, so we do not publish them. Neither arrangement is a subscription — nothing recurs and nothing renews automatically. Ask us for a figure and we will come back with one.

Who we work with

The kinds of organisation this suits

These are examples rather than a closed list. If your organisation employs, engages, represents or teaches registered practitioners and is not among them, the same two arrangements are still likely to fit — the one that suits depends on whether you employ the practitioner or represent them.

Public health services, Local Health Districts and Hospital and Health Services

Where a service is responding to a conduct concern, a pattern across a unit, or a recommendation from a review, licensed seats give clinical governance and medical administration teams something specific to assign. Each completion produces a dated certificate that sits in the practitioner's file and in your own record of what was put in place and when. In states with a co-regulatory arrangement, that record is often what a Council or Commission asks to see.

Private hospitals, day surgeries, clinics and dental groups

A single conduct allegation against one practitioner can occupy a private provider for months and reach patients, insurers and the local standing of the practice. Licensed seats let you build ethics, probity and boundaries work into induction and into annual performance review, so the position is not being invented under pressure.

Universities and health faculties

Students meet professional standards long before they meet a National Board. Faculties use licensed seats in two ways: as preparation before a first clinical placement, and as structured work for a student going through a fitness to practise or academic integrity process, where a committee wants evidence the student has engaged with the standard in question rather than simply been told about it.

Medical indemnity insurers and professional associations

You advise the practitioner rather than employ them, so a member discount scheme usually fits better than seats. Your members get a route to structured remediation at a reduced rate, at no cost to you and with nothing to administer, and what they do stays between them and us.

Health practitioner regulatory and medico-legal law firms

A practitioner instructed to demonstrate insight before a Board meeting or a tribunal hearing needs something dated, specific and defensible, quickly. A member discount scheme gives your clients that route at a reduced rate without your firm buying or holding anything, and without us reporting back to you what they did.

Aged care, disability and community health providers

Providers regulated by the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission or operating under the NDIS employ registered practitioners who are also answerable to a National Board. When a complaint arrives it frequently arrives twice, once through the sector regulator and once through Ahpra. Licensed seats let you assign work that speaks to the Board's standards rather than only to the sector's.

Locum and healthcare recruitment agencies

Agencies place practitioners into settings where the host service carries the governance risk. Where a candidate needs structured work on professional boundaries, documentation or probity before or during a placement, a licence lets you assign it immediately rather than waiting for the candidate to arrange something themselves. Completion is dated and certificated, so it can be shown to the service that asked for it.

What a licence covers

What you get

Courses you choose

You tell us which courses your people should have access to, and only those are opened on your account. A licence does not have to cover the whole catalogue.

Named learner accounts

Each seat is assigned to one named person. They set their own password and work through the material privately, on any device, at their own pace.

Twelve months from assignment

A seat runs for twelve months from the day it is assigned to a person, not from the day you bought it. Courses are self-paced, so many people finish well inside that.

A dated certificate for every completion

Every completed course issues a certificate carrying the person's name, the course title, 2 CPD hours and the date. They download it themselves, and it is also on your account.

Completion reporting

You see who has been assigned a seat, what they have completed and when. The record can be exported and filed with whatever governance or accreditation process asked for it.

No platform charge

No set-up fee, no annual platform licence and no minimum term. You pay for seats, and the rate depends on how many you take.

What can be licensed

The courses

Each page lists the concerns that Board commonly raises and the courses written to its standards. For an individual buying for themselves, see the Bulk Buy Offer.

In short

What this is

Healthcare Ethics Australia supplies self-paced courses in ethics, professionalism, professional boundaries and probity to organisations that employ, engage, represent or teach health practitioners in Australia. You either buy seats and assign them, or your members buy for themselves at a reduced rate using a code that belongs to you.

Organisations come to us for two different reasons. Some want their people to have worked through the standards their National Board publishes before a concern arises. Others are responding to something that has already happened and need structured, certificated work they can assign straight away.

We are an independent provider of remediation courses. We are not a regulator, a law firm or an indemnity insurer, and we are not affiliated with, accredited by or endorsed by Ahpra or any National Board.

Definitions

Key terms

The words used on this page, defined once so they mean the same thing throughout and in the contract.

Seat
One place on a course, assigned to one named person. Access runs for twelve months from the day the seat is assigned to that person, not from the day the organisation bought it.
Course licence
A block of seats bought at a rate below the public price, with the organisation choosing which courses are opened on its account. The licence itself runs twelve months from purchase; seats are assigned inside that period.
Member discount scheme
A code issued to an organisation that lets its members or clients buy courses in their own name at a reduced rate. The organisation buys nothing, commits to nothing, and holds no record. Neither arrangement is a subscription.
Assignment
The act of allocating a seat to a named individual. It starts that person’s twelve months and is the point at which the completion-visibility statement is shown to them.
Redemption
When the assigned person opens the course for the first time. Before it opens they are shown a single plain sentence saying the organisation which provided the seat will see which courses they complete and when, and they accept it there.
Completion reporting
The record an administrator can see and export: who has been assigned a seat, which courses they completed, the date of each completion, and the certificate. Nothing else about an individual is provided.
Certificate of completion
Issued by Healthcare Ethics Courses on finishing a course, carrying the person’s name, the course title, 2 CPD hours and the date. It is not accredited by Ahpra, by any National Board, or by any other external Australian body.

What is seen, and by whom

Confidentiality

A course somebody buys themselves is confidential. A course provided on an organisation’s licence is not, and the person taking it is told so before they begin.

Many people who come to us directly are in the middle of something difficult, and a great deal of the trust they place in us rests on knowing we do not tell their employer, their National Board or their insurer that they have enrolled. That does not change, and it is not affected by anything on this page.

A licensed seat works differently, because the organisation paying for it needs to know it was used. So anyone redeeming a seat is shown a single plain sentence at the point of redemption, before the course opens, saying that the organisation which provided the seat will be able to see which courses they complete and when. They accept it there, not in a set of terms nobody reads.

What an organisation sees is limited to assignment, completion and date, together with the certificate. It does not extend to how long somebody spent on a course, how many attempts they made at the assessment, what they wrote in a reflective exercise, or anything they say to us directly.

And there is always an alternative. Anyone who would rather your organisation knew nothing about it can buy the course themselves at the standard price. That purchase is entirely confidential. Nobody has to use a seat. The full position is in our Privacy Policy and our Terms and Conditions.

Questions organisations ask

Frequently asked questions

How does an organisation buy courses for its people?

There are two arrangements. Under a course licence you buy a block of seats at a rate below the public price and assign them to named people. Under a member discount scheme you take no seats and pay nothing; your members buy at a reduced rate using a code that belongs to your organisation.

Which one suits you depends on whether you employ or engage the practitioners concerned, or represent and advise them. We will say which we think fits when you get in touch, rather than leaving you to work it out. We do not offer both to the same organisation.

What does a seat include, and how long does it last?

A seat gives one named person access to the courses you have opened on your account, with a dated certificate for each one they complete. Access runs for twelve months from the day the seat is assigned to that person.

The licence itself runs for twelve months from the day you buy it, and seats are assigned inside that period. A seat assigned near the end of the licence still carries its own full twelve months, which may run past the licence.

Can somebody go back over a course, or take it again for a new certificate?

Going back over it, yes, without limit. For the whole of the twelve months the person can return to a course as often as they like, including after they have completed it and downloaded the certificate. Revisiting costs nothing and uses nothing.

Taking it again for a newly dated certificate is a separate thing. A certificate carries the date the course was completed, and that date does not change. A certificate with a current date means a fresh completion, and that needs a new seat assigned to that person. In short: rereading is free, a new certificate is not.

Can we choose which courses our people get?

Yes, and most organisations do. You tell us which courses to open on your account and only those appear. A recruitment agency and a university usually want different ones.

What will we be able to see about our people?

Who has been assigned a seat, which courses they have completed, the date of each completion, and the certificate. That is the whole of it.

You do not see how long somebody spent on a course, how many attempts they made at the assessment, what they wrote in a reflective exercise, or anything they say to us directly. We hold none of that against a person's name for you to read.

Do our people know that we can see their completions?

Yes, and they are told before they start rather than afterwards. Anyone redeeming a seat is shown a single plain sentence at the point of redemption, saying that the organisation which provided the seat will see which courses they complete and when. They accept it there, not buried in terms nobody reads.

Anyone who would rather your organisation knew nothing can buy the course themselves at the standard price instead. That purchase is entirely confidential and we tell you nothing.

What is the difference between a licence and a member discount scheme?

A licence is a purchase: you buy seats, you assign them, you hold the record. A member discount scheme is not a purchase at all: your organisation buys nothing and commits to nothing, your members buy in their own name at the scheme rate, and there is no record for you to hold and nothing for you to administer.

Neither is a subscription. Nothing recurs, nothing renews automatically, and no further amount becomes payable unless you choose to buy again.

What does it cost?

Seat rates and member rates are quoted against the number of people involved, so we do not publish them. The public price is A$200 a course; both arrangements sit below it.

The Bulk Buy Offer — any five courses for A$850 or any ten for A$1,400 — is for individual purchasers and does not apply to a licence or a scheme. Ask us for a figure and we will come back with one.

Are the courses accredited, and by whom?

Certificates are issued by Healthcare Ethics Courses. Each course carries 2 CPD hours and is written to Ahpra and National Board standards.

They are not accredited by Ahpra, by any National Board, or by any other external Australian body, and no provider's courses are. Anyone telling you otherwise is worth a second look. How the hours are recorded is a matter for each practitioner's Board.

Will this help with a notification our practitioner is facing?

It gives them dated, independent evidence that they identified the concern and worked on it. No course, from us or anyone else, determines the outcome of a notification, an investigation or a tribunal matter, and we do not claim it does.

The practitioner should take advice from their indemnity insurer or professional association before they respond to the Board. These courses are education, not advice on a case.
